This image for me represents hesitant. I think the way her arms are positioned behind her body gives me that uncertain feel. Hesitant means that you’re unsure, uncertain or doubtful. All this meanings can be linked here.
In the picture everything except her arms are covered with cloth. This leaves arm to feel exposed; it becomes center of the attention. With the help of that setting the eyes are straight away directed towards her arms. If you look even more in depth some parts of her upper body and lower body are in blur. However the colours are harmonising with the skin colour and it's surrounding. The skin has a fading light pale colour whereas the colour of her outfit is really bright and bold; these colours contrast really well together. She might be in this situation because maybe she is unsure of something/someone else. The only flesh we see of her body is her arms; most of her body is covered and other are not in the picture. This makes it even interesting on why the arms are the only thing we see of hers in skin/flesh.
It maybe because that she was playing some kind of game with someone else; the rules of the game might involve something to with the arms, thus the reason she's hiding it behind her body. There is totally another story behind why her hands are in such gesture. The way her hands are structured; it shows insecurity/nervousness. Theres a lot you could tell just from her hands. The fact that the other body parts not present makes it even more harder to read her. She might hiding it from someone who is trying to get hold of her hands. She is sitting down so maybe she is playing a game that is to do with guessing. I like how this picture makes you contemplate not just on the hands but how the body is covering most of the frame, why is she sitting down etc.

The image has been well analysed. However, you have talked about the way her arms have been positioned in the photograph but not the way she positioned her hands, there is certainly a meaning behind it too. For example, she could have made a fist which would mean anger, etc. I would give you 9 in a scale of 10
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about Bipej placing too much focus on the arms and ignoring what the hand gestures might connote.
ReplyDeleteBut I would add that it would be a good idea for him to look at the difference between both hands and how the hand above seems to be more active as if it is reaching for something, while the hand at the bottom seems more lifeless especially because of the blur effect on top of it.
The shape of the arm on top also looks kind of creepy and distorted to me kind of like the grudge. That might say something about why she is hesitant, although it could be phrased better.
Exploring the idea of absence might also be interesting because if she was holding something it would connote something different. She could be uncertain about revealing it, hesitant about using it etc.
However I think he could have explored what the colours connote how they relate to the rest of the image and the theme ‘hesitation’. He says that the colours harmonise with the skin tone and are bold and bright, but what does that mean relation to the image? I think he needed to explain this better.
More explanation could also be given to the reason why the arms are the only skin we see. Maybe it shows her insecurity or shyness regarding showing more skin etc.
But overall I’ll have to disagree with your mark. A lot of points were made but there wasn’t much explanation for them and there were also a few grammatical errors. I would give this a 7/10
